Sweethearts of the Rodeo

Today's blog is a home video of one of my oldest songs, Sweethearts of the Rodeo.

Sweethearts of the Rodeo

In the old days they called him a rounder, I think that means he just liked to ride,

Seemed every time that you saw him, he had a different woman by his side.

A painted lady of the evenin', a country girl come to far from home,

and a Sweetheart of the Rodeo that's how she came to be known.

Some came to watch him ride the distance, but she loved hime even when he fell

She'd wipe the dirt from his face, and listen to the lies that he'd tell.

Some nights they'd make love together, but most nights he just needed his sleep,

while the Sweetheart of the Rodeo dreamed that one day he'd be hers to keep.

He could ride some hard ones, he could break some hearts,

it was tryin' to ride the ones that could not be ridden that finally tore him apart.

So all of you calico ladies, waitin' down by the gates

I know you'll find you a rounder, and I know you'll treat him alright.

Some may look down on you darlin', but you're exactly what he needs,

A Sweetheart of the Rodeo and a heart where his heart can bleed.

A painted lady of the evenin', a country girl come to far from home,

and a Sweetheart of the Rodeo that's how she came to be known.
